It’s tax season and this year’s filing deadline, Tuesday, April 15, is a little over a month away.  United Way provides MyFreeTaxes in partnership with the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Low-moderate income filers can get the assistance they need to file their federal and state taxes – for free.

Visit MyFreeTaxes.com to learn about the program and determine which of two filing options is best for you:

  • File My Own Taxes helps you self-file your return. This option is best for filers who make under $84,000, have access to a phone, tablet, or computer, and are comfortable using tax software. It usually takes about an hour and support from IRS-certified VITA support specialists is available via email, chat, or phone. Secure software guides you through the process to ensure you get your maximum refund.
  • Have My Taxes Prepared for Me is available to filers making about $67,000 or less who are not comfortable preparing their own taxes. Returns can be prepared online or in person, and take 1-2+ weeks to be processed.
