Established by the City of Keene in 1965 under the New Hampshire Housing Authorities law,
Keene Housing’s mission is to provide and advocate for affordable housing and supportive services that strengthen and empower low and moderate-income households in the Monadnock region.
Keene Housing provides affordable housing and supportive services to over 1,000 families, elders and individuals with disabilities through a combination of federally funded Housing Choice Voucher programs and Keene Housing’s high-quality affordable housing portfolio.
Nationally recognized for innovation, Keene Housing was one of the nation’s first Public Housing Authorities accepted into the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Moving to Work Deregulation Demonstration and was the first affordable housing provider in New England to receive accreditation from the Affordable Housing Accreditation Board.

Energy & Renewable Goals
Keene Housing recognizes the environmental and societal benefits of improving energy efficiency, reducing water consumption and adopting the use of renewable energy. Additionally, reducing utility costs allows Keene Housing to invest more in our existing real estate portfolio, invest more on services for the people we serve, and to develop new affordable housing for the Monadnock region.
To that end, Keene Housing has committed to meeting all of its energy needs with renewable sources by 2035. Meeting this ambitious goal requires us to aggressively pursue opportunities for energy savings, smarter energy procurement and wherever possible, producing our own electricity.
Utility Tracking & Procurement
Our utility consumption is analyzed every six months so that high usage and/or leaks can be addressed. We constantly monitor usage and pursue opportunities for reduction.
Whenever possible, electricity and fuel purchase agreements are competitively bid.
Energy Efficiency
All maintenance staff are trained on conducting blower door guided air sealing tests and every unit we own has been tested.
Antiquated Electric Thermal Storage units are being replaced with air source heat pumps, increasing energy efficiency while providing residents the added benefit of central air conditioning.
All common areas are lit by high efficiency LED lights, and all residential units are being retrofit with LED fixtures.
Renewables
Wherever possible photovoltaic arrays are installed at properties with electric heating, to offset heating and cooling costs and significantly reduce the portfolio’s carbon footprint.
Water
We reduce water consumption throughout our portfolio by locating and sealing leaks in as well as replacing old water fixtures with low-flow versions. Due to these efforts, our water conservation measures in a 29% reduction portfolio-wide since 2013.
